Jude!(ビートルズの歌）ではないが、似ていますね。”Dude, I serve society by
rocking.” お前なあ、俺はロックで社会に貢献してるんだ。”Oh, dude cool!” うわあ、いかしてる！”Dude, we're just chilling.”お前ねえ、俺たちは軽く楽しんでただけだぞ。”I'm sorry, dude. “ すまんかったな。”What's up,
dude?”よお、どうした？”以上は、映画スクールオブロックの中で使われているdudeのごく一例。このように映画では頻繁に使われています。次に映画を見るときは気を付けてみてみよう。
２．HOTSHOT：有能な（人）、素晴らしい（人）、やり手、敏腕家、大物のこと。（皮肉的に用いられることが多い） Her husband thinks that Junko is a real hotshot, but she always gets
tickets. 亭主は順子はやり手と思っているが、彼女はいつも駐車違反のチケットを切られている、Look, hotshot, get busy, will you? おい、やり手さんよ、仕事を始めな！映画からひとつ “Hold it, hot shot.
Terrorist's holding a police hostage, got enough dynamite strapped to his
chest... “ 待て、凄腕(の刑事）さんよ。テロリストが警官を人質にとって、ダイナマイトをたっぷりと腹に巻いている、、、、「Speed」から
３．hit the sack：床に就く、寝る I am wasted, I gotta
hit the sack. 僕は疲れている、寝たいんだ（sackはスラングでベッドや寝袋の意味がある）。 またはhit the hay : I’ve got to
go home and hit the hay. 家に帰って寝なきゃならない。（hayは干し草の事、スラングでベッドの意味がある） hit～という言い方は他にも沢山あります。
hit the books しっかり勉強する、hit the road 出発する Let’s hit the road. We have a long way to go today. さあ出発しよう。今日は長い道のりだ。 hit the jackpot 大金を獲得する(これは分かるでしょう) hit the ceiling(roof) とても怒る She really hit the ceiling when she found it. 彼女はそれを見つけたときに本当に怒った。
４．suit oneself ：すきにする、勝手にする ”I think I'll just stay home." "Suit yourself!" (今晩は、家にいるよ。ご勝手にどうぞ） ”I'm
thinking about quitting my job. I have to get up very early." "Well, suit yourself!" （仕事を辞めようかと思う、早く起きねばならないんだ。どうぞ、お好きに。）
５．sugar daddy 若い女性に金を貢ぐ年寄りの男、若い女性（時に男性も）にやさしくする年配の男、お金があって若い女性を金銭的に援助するパトロン ：これの反対はcougar(若い男性とつきあう年配の女性、おばさん) Mr.Jones is a sort of a sugar
daddy to the group. ジョーンズさんはいわばこのグループのパトロンだ。
６．JOINT ：本来は、「接合箇所」「継ぎ目」などの意味だが、「アヘン窟」「賭博場」なども意味もあり、スラングでは、人の集まる場所、酒場＝bar, club, restaurantの意味で使う Let's blow the joint!（ここはずらかろうぜ！）のように使う。Jack has his own joint on
the fifth street. ジャックは5番街に行きつけの場所がある。また、「マリファナ」の意味もある。John always has a joint
with him.ジョンはいつもマリワナを持っている。
７．MUNCHIES：ポテトチップスなどのスナック菓子のこと Let's get some munchies
before going into the theater. 劇場に入る前に何かスナックを仕入れておこうぜ、 “I’m
a little hungry.” ”Let’s get some munchies.” 腹が減った。スナック菓子を買おう The munchies at yesterday’s party were
great! 昨日のパーティの菓子は美味しかった。
8. hoof it：（車に乗らずに）歩く、テクテク歩いていく Let's hoof it to the disco. （ディスコまで歩いていこう）、I missed the last bus last night and because I didn’t have enough money to pay for a taxi, I decided to hoof it. （昨晩は最終のバスに乗り遅れた。タクシー代がなかったので(車に乗らずに)歩く事にしたよ）My
car’s broken, so I had o hoof it to
work. 車が故障していたんで、歩いて仕事へ行った。Hoof itはまた、走って逃げる（run away）の意味もある。 George hoofed it when he
saw the uniform. ジョージは制服（警察）が来たのを見て走って逃げた。
９．da bomb ：すごい、素晴らしい （cool, awesome) Don’t tell anybody but I think you are da bomb! （誰にも言うなよ、でも僕は君が大変凄いと思うよ） *bombは爆弾。daはtheがなまったもの This
is really da bomb. これは、本当にすごいんだぜ。
10. that makes two of us ： 同感だ！ 私もそう思う、その通り(スラングではなく、会話的用法) "I'd
like to go to Hawaii." " Yeah, that
makes two of us." 「ハワイへ行きたいな」「私もよ」
11.get to : get to
someone で誰かを殺す、誰かに手を出す、面倒を掛ける（annoy）His remark got to me after a while. 彼の注意はしばらくして私を悩ました。 “And when they do, what do you think they’ll do to him? They can get to anyone, anywhere. “もし彼らがそうだとしたら、彼に何をすると思う？やつらは誰でも、口を封じる（殺す）ことが出来るんだぞ。（誰でも手を出せるんだぞ）

the nitty-gritty: 直ぐに要点に入る。 When I make a business call, I never
